Circles Privacy Policy

Circles is a companion messaging application for Scrolls accounts. This Privacy Policy explains how Circles collects, uses, shares, and retains information when you use direct messages, group conversations, voice messages, photo and video moments, safety tools, and related features.

By using Circles, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information You Provide

Account Information

Circles uses your existing Scrolls account. We may process account information including:

• Username
• Display name
• Email address
• Profile biography
• Profile image
• Scrolls user ID
• Authentication credentials and session information

Circles does not store your password inside the app. Authentication tokens may be securely stored in the iOS Keychain to keep you signed in.

Messages and User Content

We process content you choose to create or share, including:

• Direct and group text messages
• Voice messages
• Moment replies
• Photos and videos
• Photo and video moments
• Conversation membership information
• Reports, block actions, and information submitted to moderators

Messages and media are delivered to the participants or audiences selected through the service.

2. Information Generated Through Use

We generate information required to operate and protect Circles, including:

• Message delivery and read status
• Moment views and “Seen by” records
• Moment creation and expiration times
• Conversation and membership records
• Blocked-account lists
• Content reports and moderation outcomes
• Authentication and security events
• Abuse-prevention signals
• Feature interactions necessary to operate the service

Circles does not use this information for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.

3. Camera, Microphone, and Photo Library

Circles may request permission to access:

• Camera: To capture photos and videos for moments.
• Microphone: To record voice messages and audio for video moments.
• Photo Library: To select existing photos or videos for moments.

Circles only accesses these resources when you choose to use the related feature. You can manage these permissions through iOS Settings.

Circles does not request access to your contacts or device location.

4. How We Use Information

We use information to:

• Authenticate your Scrolls account
• Operate direct and group conversations
• Deliver text and voice messages
• Display photo and video moments
• Record message and moment view status
• Synchronize conversations between Circles and Scrolls
• Maintain account blocks and safety preferences
• Investigate reports and enforce our Terms of Service
• Prevent spam, abuse, fraud, and security threats
• Respond to support and privacy requests
• Maintain and improve service reliability

Circles does not sell personal information.

Circles does not track users across other companies’ apps or websites and does not use the App Tracking Transparency framework.

5. Sharing and Visibility

Your information may be visible as follows:

• Messages and voice messages are visible to participants in the relevant conversation.
• Moments display the author’s profile identity to viewers.
• Moment authors can see which accounts viewed their moments.
• Your username, display name, biography, and avatar may be visible to people you communicate with.
• Reports may be reviewed by authorized moderators.

We may share information with service providers that help operate Circles, including database, authentication, media-storage, content-delivery, and Apple platform services. These providers process information on our behalf to deliver the service.

We may also disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect users, enforce our policies, or prevent harm.

6. Content Retention

Retention periods depend on the feature and the reason the information is stored.

• Moments expire automatically after approximately 24 hours.
• Associated moment media and view records are removed according to our retention processes.
• Eligible ephemeral voice messages may be removed after being listened to or after approximately 24 hours, according to the product rules shown in the app.
• Conversation history remains available until it is deleted by a participant, removed under our policies, or deleted as part of account deletion.
• Reports and moderation records may be retained for safety, abuse prevention, legal compliance, and auditing.

Temporary media files created while preparing uploads are intended to be removed after use.

7. Blocking, Reporting, and Moderation

Circles provides tools that allow users to report content and block abusive accounts.

When you block an account:

• The block is stored on our backend.
• The blocked account’s conversations and moments are removed from your active Circles experience.
• A moderation record may be created so our team is notified of potentially inappropriate behavior.

Reports may include information about the reported content, the reporting account, the reported account, the selected reason, and any notes provided.

We may remove content, restrict features, suspend accounts, or permanently terminate accounts that violate our Terms of Service.

8. Account Deletion

You can permanently delete your account from inside Circles:

Settings → Account → Delete Account

Because Circles and Scrolls use the same account, deleting your account through Circles also deletes the associated Scrolls account.

Account deletion removes your account and begins removing your profile, messages, moments, and other user content from active service surfaces. Some records may be retained for a limited period when reasonably necessary for security, abuse prevention, legal compliance, dispute resolution, or enforcing our policies.

Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

9. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information.

No internet service or storage system can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for protecting your account credentials and notifying us if you believe your account has been compromised.

10. Children’s Privacy

Circles is intended for users who are at least 17 years old.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the applicable minimum age. If you believe a child has provided personal information through Circles, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

11. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights concerning your personal information, including the right to:

• Request access to your information
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your information
• Object to or restrict certain processing
• Manage camera, microphone, and photo-library permissions
• Block accounts
• Delete conversations or moments
• Permanently delete your account

To submit a privacy request, contact us using the information below. We may need to verify your identity before completing account-specific requests.

12. International Processing

Circles and its service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international data transfers.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy for legal, security, operational, or product reasons.

When material changes are made, we may provide notice through Circles or require users to acknowledge the updated policy. The effective date at the top of this policy indicates when it was last updated.
